Guest Blog: Oasis of the Seas…We Set Sail!

The shipyard phase is over and the next phase – the crossing – begins. Over the next two weeks most of the action on this blog will be provided by Lisa Bauer, Senior Vice President, Hotel Operations, who is onboard Oasis of the Seas for the crossing. Take it away Lisa:

We set sail! This morning at daybreak, we began our 12 day journey to our new home in Port Everglades. It was a postcard morning, not a cloud in the sky and the sunrise was stunning. It was really the perfect way for Turku, Finland to send off Oasis of the Seas. Everyone had chills, and it wasn’t because it was -7C either.

The ship has a really nice vibe. The crew is getting to experience the various venues as we open them up. We plan to open a few outlets a day to give the crew time to practice. Today we officially opened up Sorrento’s Pizzeria. It is a great location centrally located on Royal Promenade. There are some great new enhancements in Sorrento’s. Guests will be able to “design” their own pizza and pick their own personal toppings. (I’m boring, I did extra cheese and Pepperoni). There are tons of toppings to choose from. In addition to being able to get the traditional slice, guests can also elect to get the whole pie. The other great new change is guests can order the entire pie and then take it with them to go as well. I can just imagine sitting on a balcony in Boardwalk watching the show in the AquaTheatre eating a pizza! The crew did great with the opening today. Lots of smiling faces, and no, I didn’t have the entire pizza, just 2 slices.

We also officially kicked off our daily leadership meeting today. All the division heads from shipboard and shoreside from hotel, marine, and newbuild are providing updates on how the days training went, results of stress tests, and how progress is being made in various areas. The teamwork is really great and these meetings will ensure we keep in close communication during the crossing.

We are opening up Dazzles tonight for the crew, so will have an update on how that went tomorrow!

Have you guys added full satellite TV in staterooms yet on your new ship? This is something that you need badly. I would go on so many more cruises. TVS with Tivo would be even better.

  2. STEVE

Hi Guys, hope your having fun on the new ship. Question: Where can we find more actual photos of the ship and not just the artists conceptions? Thanks.

  3. marie fisher

Have a wonderful and safe trip! Really appreciate your comments, keeps the excitement going! Can’t wait till Dec.1.

    Adam,
The ship is absolutely beautiful. I cannot wait to see her in Port. I am still trying to comprehend just how big it will appear next to the terminal building. What a Ship !!!

So excited about sailing on Oasis in January! This will be our 11th cruise with RC. Looking forward to seeing Hairspray, Ice Show, Aqua Show (from our balcony overlooking Boardwalk) and ever other thing that Oasis has to offer. Hope Oasis and crew has a safe and blessed crossing over the Atlantic.

Just a quick note or a suggestion if not. Is there a live cruise cam on the oasis and if not i think it would be a good idea for further excitement.

  7. lynn catalina

The excitement builds! A real testimony to the power of blogging. I will enjoy your updates, and Ben and look forward to our Novebmer 22 and December 5 inaugurals. What an amazing ship!

  8. ErIK

    VERY EXCITING!!!!

question when will the rccl web page have a virtual tour of the new ship like it does with the others?

    • Adam

We’re excited too, ErIK! We are working on the virtual tour for the website now. We’ll let you know when it’s posted.

  9. Michael kelly

Are we going to be able to track the crossing? I’m so ready to set sail Dec 5! Is there a web cam located on board for live feeds? How about in the port for the arrival?

  10. CHARLES DAY

We have had 10 couples booked on the Oasis, for a 2 week back to back since Sept 08, in anticipation of this ship coming on-line. It is obviously going to be beyond our expectations and are very excited about going. The carrousel has been built in our town, Mansfield, Ohio and we have been over to see it being built several times. Look under the RCCL horse and you will find the owners initials. We go to church with the gal who has painted over 3/4′s of the animals. We are doing a back to back on the Majesty this week, so that we willbe diamond on the Oasis. I will be booking more rez’s on the ship for more friends that want to go with us. We are also going to book rez’s on the Alure. We will be back in Miami on the 13th and are going up to Ft Lauderdale, so that we can at least see the ship in dock. Can’t wait until our turn to go. As usual, we expect our anticipation to be exceeded as it always has been on any RCCL ship. we have sailed on. I think you have another winner on your hands. Thanks.

Hello!! I am so excited for everything that has been happening at Royal Caribbean, and in particular Oasis of the Seas. I already have my cruise booked! I know things are busy, but could you blog more often? I check the blog several times a day waiting for something new. Thanks!!

My parent are on this most amazing ship. They set sail on 1st December 2009. Can you please let me know if there is a web cam on board so I can follow. Thanking you.

    • Adam

Hi Kim. We’re happy to have your family onboard. There is a webcam on the Oasis; it will be live mid January 2010. We’re sorry you won’t be able to see your parents on their current cruise, but you’re welcome to view the feed next month at http://www.royalcaribbean.com. Thanks!

I am in Nassau Bahamas and just witnessed the beautiful Oasis arrive. We are Crown & Anchor members and are wondering if we (Bahamians) can board the ship in Nassau and take the cruise instead of having to go to Florida? We have sailed at least 9 times on RCCL but always have to go to the USA to board. Thank you. Susan Cartwright

    • Adam

Hi Susan. Unfortunately, guests have to board the Oasis at her home port in Ft Lauderdale, FL. We hope you are able to sail on her sometime. Thanks for asking.

  15. Andy and judy

We were on the 2/6 cruise with 130 from the church. It was awsome as this was our first cruise and in talking with others who have ‘cruised’ in the past- all other cruises are nothing like this. We all had a great time.

  16. Oasis of the Seas

Oasis of the seas is not only the largest vessel, but also revealing in front of you thousands of entertainments. This is one of the most beautiful and luxury ships I have ever seen.

    • Adam

Thank you very much for the compliment. We do our best to offer our very best. Which of the many entertainment options on Oasis is your favorite?
