Situated on Brazil's southeastern coast between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, this 17th-century port town is a beautifully preserved antique with rich and varied history to match. In 1966, Paraty's historic center was declared a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site, and it is clear from the carefully maintained colonial architecture and the vehicle-free historic zone that they are indeed very proud of their heritage. Add to that the untouched beaches, calm ocean waters and flourishing rainforests, and you won't be able to decide what to do or see first!
