Visit the Jean P. Haydon Museum in the center of the village to learn about Samoan history and tradition. Housed in what was once a Naval Commissary during World War II, the museum features Samoan artifacts and handicrafts as well as displays on Kava making and Samoan tattooing.

Get a Taste of Local Flavor

An umu is the traditional Samoan method for cooking food by slow-baking fruits, meats, seafood and vegetables in layers between hot coals and banana fronds. Umu feasts usually take several hours but the flavors are incredible. While you're waiting, try some oka-raw fish that has been marinated in lemon juice, coconut cream, salt and onions.
