The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is one of the premier arts institutions in Canada and dates back to 1908. The Halifax Gallery is made up of two buildings and has a permanent collection of over 15,000 objects. Each year many new Nova Scotian, Canadian and International exhibits are offered with both historic and contemporary art. You can view paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, ceramics and other works that are on display.
One of the most viewed exhibits is the Maud Lewis House and Gallery – yes her entire house is in the gallery, it is tiny as she was in stature but not talent. Maud Lewis is one of Nova Scotia’s most famous folk artists.
Browse the Art Gallery, then sample Nova Scotian wine and cheese in the heart of downtown Halifax. You may also want to browse the on-site Gallery Gift Shop or Art Sales Gallery which carries more than 1000 pieces from over 200 maritime artists.
Note: Minors under 19 are legally not allowed to drink alcohol in Nova Scotia. An alternative will be available during the wine tasting.
