This tour is designed for guests who would enjoy seeing Tallinn mainly from the comforts of a motor coach but still get a glimpse of Old Town too. Stop for photographs at the Tall Hermann Tower from where you will have the option to walk the short distance up Toompea Hill to Palace Square, to view the baroque Toompea Castle (external view only). You may also visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral dominating the city skyline. Departing from Tall Hermann Tower, you will continue past the original city walls, the Kaarli Church, the Estonian Opera and Ballet Theater and also Kadriorg Park. Proceed to the Song Festival Ground. You will pass by the Forest Cemetery into the seaside area of Pirita.
After a short drive from the port, ancient walls and tower gates come into view. Arriving at the Great Coastal Gate of Tallinn (coach traveling by), you will observe the magnificent "Stout Margaret" Cannon Tower (coach traveling by). You will stop for photographs at the Tall Hermann Tower (stop - exterior visit only) from where you will have the option to walk the short distance up Toompea Hill to Palace Square to view from the outside the baroque Toompea Castle (stop - exterior visit only), now housing the Estonian Parliament. You may also visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (inside visit included), which dominates the city skyline.
Departing from Tall Hermann Tower, you will continue past the original city walls built in 13th - 15th century before finally proceeding past the Kaarli Church (coach traveling by) and the Estonian Opera and Ballet Theater (coach traveling by) towards the main recreation area of Tallinn, Kadriorg Park (coach traveling by). Kadriorg Park was founded by Peter the Great in honour of his wife Catherine I in the 18th century. From here you will proceed to Song Festival Ground (photo stop), with an amphitheater specially built for the popular Estonian Song Festival. You will pass by the Forest Cemetery (coach traveling by) where distinguished Estonians are buried amongst the pine trees before continuing onto Pirita, the beach side location of the yachting complex (stop - exterior visit only) built for the 1980 Olympic Games. On the way you will pass the 16th century ruins of St. Bridget's Convent (coach traveling by). Return to the port through the contemporary business center of Tallinn.
Note: You will have the option of staying in town or returning to the ship at the conclusion of your tour (the guests staying in town have to notify the tour guide and for taking the shuttle bus back to the port they need to buy a one-way ticket). There are approximately 600 yards of walking over even surfaces with 15 steps. The walking portion at Tall Hermann Tower is optional and at your discretion. Tour order may vary to avoid overcrowding but all mentioned sites will be covered.
