Cartagena City, La Popa Hill, Folkloric Show & Shopping - CA01
Explore the city of Cartagena, once considered the gem of the Spanish main and today still surprises visitors with its colonial architecture and impressive fortifications, Visit the La Popa Monastery for a breathtaking view, behold the Fort of San Felipe, Shops at Las Bovedas and enjoy a great Folkloric show at the reknown Cafe del Mar.
You will drive on air conditioned buses from the pier to the Candelaria Virgin Monastery at La Popa Hill, you will pass the old residential area of La Manga to admire the Moorish, Republican neighborhood. The Monastery and chapel were built by the Augustinian priests at the beginning of theXVII century. From the Monastery you will enjoy a spectacular vie of the city and the bay.
From the hill you will continue to the San Felipe de Barajas Fortress for a photostop.You will admire the massiveness of this military construction, built by the Spaniards during the colonial times to protect the city against the pirates. From there, you will head up to the Dungeons or Las Bóvedas used as handicraft shops now, for some shopping time.
You will continue to Café del Mar, located over the old wall. You will have to go up a stone platform to reach the top of the wall. You will receive one drink included (bottled water, coke or beer). You can sit down and observe a folklore show that includ popular typical songs and dances of the colombian caribbean coast. From Café del Mar you will walk along the narrow streets of the old city to, until the San Pedro Claver Square (Patron Saint of Cartagena) and Plaza de La Marina, where the buses will be waiting you to return to the port.
