Lisbon City Panoramic Drive - LS05
On tour you will pass by principal gardens of Lisbon. Proceed along river front towards Belém area to see Monument to the Discoveries. Continue to Belém Tower. Travel past Jeronimos Monastery Church. Before returning to ship, admire Ponte Salazar. Lisbon's suspension bridge was renamed to commemorate the revolution of April 25, 1974, which restored democracy to Portugal. Nearby on the south bank of the Tagus River is the impressive statute of Christ the King looking over the city. Note: must walk approx 100 yards over even surfaces with steps to enter/exit the coach. Tour order may vary but all mentioned sights will be covered. This excursion includes a comfort stop in Belém Tower.
On this tour you will pass by the principal gardens of Lisbon, named in honor of England's King Edward Vll, who came to Lisbon in 1902 to reaffirm the Anglo-Portuguese alliance. Proceed along the river front towards the Belém area and see the Monument to the Discoveries, erected in 1960 to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator. Continue to the famous Belém Tower, an elegant Manueline structure guarding the mouth of the Tagus River. It was from this superb tower that Portuguese explorers were given a rousing farewell on their adventures to new worlds. Travel past the Jeronimos Monastery Church, founded by King Manuel and designed by the architect Boytac. The renowned monastery is considered an architectural masterpiece. Before returning to the vessel, admire the Ponte Salazar, named after the dictator who had it built in 1966.
