This tour allows you to experience the wonders of Taormina at your own pace. You'll pass along the highway that cuts through the mountainous west coast of Sicily. You'll stop below the village of Taormina before proceeding (on foot) uphill to the village gates. You'll have approximately 3 hours to explore the village at your own pace. Enjoy refreshments in a local cafe's or shop among the boutiques on the Corso Umberto. Be sure to visit the Greek Theater which dates back to the 3rd century BC. On a clear day, it offers views of the snowcapped peak of Mt. Etna.
Note: This tour involves approximately 3 hours on your own. An escort will be on the coach to and from Taormina. This tour does not include lunch or entrance fees. Walking is at your own discretion. Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended. No traffic is allowed inside the city walls; therefore, all touring must be done on foot. There is an approximately 0.25 mile incline from the bus parking lot to the village gates. Lifts must be used from the parking area to the town center. On the return to the coaches, there are three (3) lifts available for those who need them. In case of queues or an emergency, guests will be required to negotiate 140 steps. If guests should miss the return bus, transportation back to the vessel is their own responsibility and at their own expense. The tour does not include the visit of Churches, but should guests do so independently during their free time, conservative attire with covered knees and shoulders is recommended. The drive to/from the Catania is approximately 60 minutes each way, dependent upon traffic conditions.
