Overview:
Discover the history, legends and culture of the former capital of Istria on a guided walking tour. Known for its wealth from the sea trade era, Koper’s well-preserved buildings lend a Venetian charm. Explore the town’s architecture and history with visits to its squares, a palace and museum.

Highlights:
-Praetorian Palace: Witness the 15th century palace and Koper's most recognized symbol.
-Town Squares: Stroll through Tito Square and Carpaccio Square.
-Regional Museum of Koper: Admire the exhibitions of contemporary Slovenian history.

Full Description:
Begin your journey with a stroll through the narrow cobbled streets of Koper. Take note of the time markings of past centuries on the walls and houses across the city. Upon arrival to the center of the old city, view the Slovenian Tito Square, an austere piazza surrounded by slowly crumbling Venetian styled ''palazzi.'' From the square, the cobbled Cevljarska ulica leads south and Kidriceva ulica leads west to the marina. Continue to the fully restored Praetorian Palace, dating back to the 15th century, Koper's most recognizable symbol today.

With each step, history is outlined as you admire the old Venetian architecture. The great master Vittore Carpaccio, Venetian school painter, spent the last days of his life in the peaceful town of Koper. To his honor, one of the largest squares in Koper is named after him. Proceed past Carpaccio Square along a path to Muda Gate, the former city entrance connected by a bridge from the hinterland. Muda Gate was the only gate connected to the land allowing direct access by the rich citizens of the town. The less fortunate were allowed access by one of the remaining eleven gates.

Continue to the Regional Museum of Koper, where you'll view the exhibitions of contemporary Slovenian history and the varied temporary exhibitions. Collections from the Austro-Hungarian Empire include different examples of newspaper articles from modern times. This exhibition demonstrates the diversity of Slovenian historical background. At the conclusion of the museum tour, you are free to return to the pier at your leisure.

What to Bring:
-You should always take your SeaPass card (provided onboard the ship) and photo identification when in port.
