This tour will take you to the less developed areas of the east end of Roatan away from the crowds. You will learn about the culture and lifestyle of the local people on Roatan and get to enjoy the beauty of the island. The first stop will be made at The View, where a great photo opportunity awaits. The North shore and the South shore can be seen as you look West down the island. Next stop will be a boat ride in an island style motor dory around the harbor of Jonesville, Roatan’s Venice. Colorfully painted houses on stilts line the water’s edge and locals commute by water taxi to stores, restaurants and school. Large shrimp and lobster boats may be seen in this charming fishing community.
Then you will visit Punta Gorda, home of the Garifuna; descendants of African slaves who settled here in 1797. They are the most ethnic race group on the island and have maintained their lifestyle, culture and language to this day. You will get a glimpse of this around the statue of "Satuye" their famous leader in Satuye Park. Here you may explore an authentic Garifuna hut and watch the preparation of traditional Garifuna food. At YUBU - the Garifuna Experience you may enjoy their music and dance performance. There are wonderful photo opportunities on this tour.
