The Botanical Garden of Cactus D’Algar was inaugurated in July 2001 as a pioneering project within the Valencia Community. This garden is located in the locality of Callosa d'en Sarrià (Alicante) and created in 1996 within a natural reserve known as" The Fonts of l' Algar", on the foot of the Mountain range of Bernia.
Water is an important factor in the agricultural locality of Callosa d'en Sarrià. It is present in the entire route, in the presence of natural sources and small pools. There is a variety and extensive collection of cetacean and succulent plants, approximately 500 different species along its ordered space. The garden occupies a landscaped surface of 50,000 square meters, with 3,000 meters of avenues, divided in a series of exhibition areas, with innumerable families of cactus and other plants.
Continue to the Fuentes del Algar, declared a Protected Humid Zone by the Valencian Government on the 10 of September of 2002. The birth of the water sources of Algar are constituted by the several springs located at the feet of the mountain range of Bernia. These waters flow through narrow passages in search of a valley until it meets the Guadalest River. You’ll walk through this beautiful enclave, and before seeing the great cascade you’ll hear its song.
Note: Guests must walk approximately 1.5 miles over gravel, hiking trails and rough pathways with 100 steps. Guests will have approximately 15 minutes on their own. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Tour order may vary to avoid congestion at the venues but all mentioned sites will be covered.
