A strategic location in history, Port Canaveral's ocean gateway has been at the epicenter of Spanish exploration in the New World, Revolutionary battles, the burgeoning of Florida's cruise and tourist industries, mankind's space exploration…and more. Now is your chance to experience it ALL!
From the pier, head over to the Air Force Space & Missile History Museum to learn about where the spirit of space exploration began. The History Museum features exhibits highlighting every launch complex on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Next, stop at The Canaveral locks, built in 1965. This is the largest navigation lock in Florida that connects Port Canaveral & Atlantic Ocean to the inland waterways (Banana River). For the past 30 years, this lock has been used after every shuttle launch to transport the shuttle booster rockets, which fell into the ocean after liftoff, back to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The Lock is a magnet for fish and birds and on any given day you will see: Brown Pelican, White Ibis, Snowy Egret, Great Blue Heron, and Wood Stork. Manatees, Bottlenose dolphins and Sea Turtles may often be spotted. Your next stop will be a visit to a fish house and working dock, where thousands of pounds of seafood are caught each year, and where one of Florida’s most well-known species got its start - the Rock shrimp. Here, you will be able to have a taste and sampling of Canaveral Shrimp. Next, visit the new Exploration Tower with its seven stories of exhibits that honor the Space Coast’s past and present. You’ll end your experience in Port Canaveral with interactive exhibits and spectacular views of the port that only the Exploration Tower can offer. Get your cameras out!
*Guests wanting to extend their experience at the Exploration Tower or in the Port Canaveral Cove (Local Restaurants and Bars) are welcome to utilize shuttles returning to the ship approximately every 30 minutes.
Note: Wear comfortable shoes. A light sweater or jacket is recommended.
