Overview: Travel to the heart of the Etruscan region and discover Tarquinia, where you’ll enjoy free time to explore the medieval village on your own. You’ll also visit a family-owned gelateria and enjoy an ice cream cone. Full Description: Your tour begins with a scenic 30-minute drive from Civitavecchia to Tarquinia. The quaint village of Tarquinia was founded in 449 BC and was once the most powerful city in Etruria before being defeated by the Roman Empire. Trace the history and achievements of the ancient culture of the Etruscans starting outside the city walls. You will have approximately 1 hour of free time to explore the tiny streets of the historical center and its beautiful churches, palaces, towers, and shops. Discover the 14th century Town Hall Lodge, the cathedral, the 15th century Palazzo dei Priori, and the National Etruscan Museum, housed in the Vitelleschi Palace.
After your free time, you’ll meet your guide at a designated time and place and proceed to a traditional family-owned gelateria where you’ll enjoy an ice cream cone. You will then rejoin your coach and return to Civitavecchia.
During your bus ride to Tarquinia, you will receive emergency contact numbers in the unlikely event you become separated from the group.
What to Bring: -You should always take your SeaPass card (provided onboard the ship) and photo identification when in port. -Camera and cash for shopping.
What to Wear: -Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended.

On Thursdays, the shops will be closed in the afternoon. -On Mondays, the Etruscan Museum and Necropolis will be closed.
