Jutting from the Bay of Cadiz and surrounded by water, Cadiz can lay claim to being Europe's oldest city. Legend names Hercules as its founder, although history credits the Phoenicians.
Your guide will walk with you through the old town, where flowers sprout from rusting cans and religious paintings adorn the haphazardly heaped Moorish houses. The tour takes you to the highlights that are difficult to find on your own - the city street grid was designed to confuse pirates. You'll see the Plaza de Espana, Town Hall, Plaza de San Juan de Dios, 18th century Baroque and neo-classical Cathedral, and the rampart walls of this once highly fortified city. Free time is allowed for you to enjoy a refreshment at a local cafe.
Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 2.5 miles over even surfaces with 15 - 25 steps. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Due to the nature of this tour, it is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or wheelchairs. Shorts or bare shoulders are not permitted in the Cathedral. Please dress conservatively. The Cathedral is closed to guided tours during Sunday port visits. Guides will give an explanation outside and guests will then enter on an individual basis to view the interior quietly and reverently.
