You will drive through the lush Corfu countryside to the old traditional village of Gastouri and the Achilleion Palace. Built by Empress Elizabeth 'Sissy' of Austria in 1891, the palace was later owned by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. You will visit the Palace Room and the beautiful gardens which offer a spectacular view over the Ionian Sea. The Empress, fond of ancient Greek history and mythology, adorned the garden with classical statues. The main 'Terrace of the Muses' is decorated with statues of the Nine Greek Muses. The imposing figures of ‘Achilles Victorious’ and ‘Achilles Dying’ are some of the most interesting statues.
Leaving Achilleion Palace, your coach proceeds to one of the most beautiful spots on the island, the Bay of Paleokastritsa.
