Enjoy a narrated motorcoach drive along the Gastineau Channel on your way to one of Juneau's most inspiring locations - the Mendenhall Glacier. Your driver will talk about the history of Juneau, provide you with glacier tidbits and discuss what life is like in the capital city as you navigate down the Mendenhall Valley. You will have over an hour to enjoy the solitude and beauty of this natural wonder. Walk along the short trails, including a fantastic photo point where you can capture an unobstructed view of this river of ice. Inside the visitors center, view interpretive exhibits or watch a short film on the glacier's history and browse the gift shop.

Along the way you will pass by Gold Creek, where gold was discovered in the late 1800's and the 4,000 acre Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge. Finally, the valley will slowly reveal the magnificent treasure hidden at its end....the Mendenhall Glacier.
You will have over an hour to enjoy the solitude and beauty of this natural wonder. Walk along the short trails, including a photo point where you can capture an unobstructed view of this river of ice. Go inside the visitors center, which sits along a cliff over the valley floor, to view interpretive exhibits or watch a short film on the glacier's history and browse the gift shop. US Forest Service Rangers are available throughout the glacier complex to answer your questions regarding this amazing display of blue ice. Don't forget - keep an eye out for porcupines, bears, Arctic Terns, beavers and mountain goats - all who call this area home.
Upon returning to town, your driver/guide will be happy to drop you at Marine Park, located in the center of town, for you to experience the delights of local galleries, restaurants and shops on your own. When you are ready to go back to the ship, you can either walk the short distance to the pier or if docked at AJ or Franklin docks – you can catch the shuttle at the Mt. Robert Tramway.
