Your unforgettable Mount Roberts adventure begins upon boarding the tramcar adorned in colorful Tlingit heraldic designs. An exhilarating ride through the Alaska rainforest lifts you to 1,800 feet to the Mountain House. As you ascend, you’ll experience one of Alaska's most expansive and beautiful views with the Chilkat Mountains north, Stephens Passage south, Douglas Island west, and east to Silver Bow Basin where gold was discovered in 1880. The Mountain House, nestled among towering Sitka Spruce, is on the edge of the grasses and wildflowers of the sub-alpine. Inside receive an introduction to the Tlingit way-of-life at the Chilkat Theater with the award winning film, “Seeing Daylight”. Live entertainment performs at the theater several times each week. Raven Eagle Gifts offers everything from souvenirs of your trip to Juneau, to authentic Alaska Native art. Native artists are often featured working on wood, fossilized ivory or silver carvings, making dolls, sewing garments or beading. Enjoy dining with a view in the Timberline Bar & Grill, for an additional cost.
Outside the Mountain House, the Nature Center leads to an extensive trail system suitable for walking or continuing up the mountain for a hike. Watch for wildlife and birds on your way to the bear viewing platforms. Learn about raptors in Alaska from the Naturalist at the live bald eagle exhibit. Be sure to bring your camera for great panoramic photos of the Juneau-Gastineau waterfront and surrounding mountains.
