Wang Wang and Funi, the zoo’s two resident giant pandas, and wine tastings at the historic Penfolds Magill Estate Cellar Door.
Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is the only Australian state capital founded by free settlers. The city prides itself on its live music and arts scene, historic architecture and proximity to one of the country’s best known wine growing regions, the Barossa Valley.
On this tour, you can amble about the Adelaide Zoo at your own pace. The zoo houses more than 1,800 animals, representing native, exotic and endangered species, including Wang Wang and Funi, the giant pandas who arrived in 2009.
After the zoo, you’ll be taken to the foothills to the east of the city to visit the historic Penfolds Magill Estate, a historic winery established in 1844. The estate reflects the pioneering spirit of its founders, Dr. Christopher Rawson and Mary Penfold, who called their homestead the Grange, which became the name of estate’s prized red. Sights include the family’s cottage home, the Still House, bluestone cellars and, with a Penfold employee leading the way, underground tunnels. No visit is complete without tasting some of Penfolds’ production: the winery is especially known for its Shiraz.
