Volcanoes National Park - HL05
Drive through the lush tropical forest to the Volcanoes National Park, 4,300 feet above sea level to view Kilauea Volcano—home of Pele, the legendary Goddess of Fire. Your tour includes a walk through the Thurston Lava Tube, a ride along the crater rim and a visit to Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Visitor Center & Gift Shop. You will not see molten lava on this tour.
Drive through the lush tropical forest to the Volcanoes National Park, 4,300 feet above sea level to view Kilauea Volcano—home of Pele, the legendary Goddess of Fire. You will stop at the Kilauea Visitors Center, learn of the Big Island’s formation at the Jaggar Museum, walk through the Thurston Lava Tube and ride along the spectacular crater rim. Here you will view two kinds of lava, the smooth Pahoehoe and jagged A’a, as well as lava tubes, sulphur banks and bleak desert areas. En route back to Hilo you’ll stop at the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Visitor Center & Gift Shop where you will sample firsthand one of Hawaii’s most famous agricultural exports.
Sulphur gases may affect those with respiratory problems. You will not see molten lava on this tour.
