Polignano a Mare was home to Mr. Domenico Modugno, a very popular Italian singer who became famous all over the world with his song “Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu” or more widely known as “Volare”. As you stroll through Polignano's town center, you will certainly come to understand the reason Mr. Modugno wrote his song here. Perched atop a rocky cliff, surrounded by the blue-green sea, Polignano may inspire you as well.
Your walking tour begins in the square where a bronze statue dedicated to Domenico Modugno is welcoming you with his open arms. A few steps farther and you will discover the first breathtaking view over the marine caves, coastal villages and glistening shoreline. Descend to the bottom of the cliff to an ancient riverbed where many people relax in the sun during the summer season.
Continue with your guide to explore Polignano's historic town center, with its winding little streets adorned with flowers, creating a magical Mediterranean atmosphere. Some independent time will allow you to treat yourself to a delicious gelato or a "Caffè Speciale," a coffee made with milk, cream and a little bit of liqueur. A perfect way to conclude your day will be to experience “Mr. Volare's” white cliffs.

-During the summer, hats and other forms of sun protection are highly recommended.

-Flat-soled, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.
-Guests are requested to dress conservatively when visiting sacred sites. Clothing should cover the shoulders and knees. Shorts and sleeveless shirts are inappropriate.

-On Sundays, church holidays and during weddings, groups are not allowed inside the church during services. Guests may have the chance to visit the church independently, quietly and reverently. Guides are not allowed to enter and talk during services.
-Restrooms are located in cafès during your free time and purchasing a snack or coffee is suggested when using the facilities.
