The tour begins with a panoramic drive through the town where you will stop at the Meštrovic Gallery, home of Ivan Meštrovic, the greatest Croatian sculptor of all times. A large part of his impressive work is displayed there in his house that is today a gallery.

Modern Split is the product of 17 centuries of building, renovating and remodeling so that the new of today combines in harmony with the old of yesterday. At the core of the sprawling cityscape is the palace that Emperor Diocletian built for his retirement at the turn of the 4th century. What began as an imperial residence and fortified camp is today an intriguing warren of narrow cobblestone streets, where pre-Romanesque churches live alongside Gothic Chapels, history-filled museums, art galleries and inviting restaurants.

Your walking tour begins at the Ethnographical Museum which is situated in the very heart of Diocletian Palace, actually in the Emperor' s Apartment. The museum itself, as building, is very interesting since it is a combination of a beautiful medieval house and imperial rooms. It houses a valuable collection of clothes, dresses and gowns, but also gives an interesting picture of life in Split throughout centuries. You will also visit the Cathedral of St. Duje (patron saint of the city). The Cathedral was built on the remains of an ancient shrine and was supposed to be the oldest in the world. A visit will also be made to the Temple of Jupiter. Other sights such as the Golden Gate, the Silver Gate and the Peristyle Square will be seen from the exterior. After the walking tour, you can visit the open market (largest on the coast) or spend some free time in the town for browsing or shopping.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.65 mile over various surfaces with 50+ steps. Comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Conservative attire (no tank tops or shorts) that covers both the shoulders and knees is suggested for this tour. Time permitting; guests will have approximately 45 minutes for shopping and browsing.
