Full Description:
Visit the more famous churches of Salvador, the third largest city in Brazil. With more than a thousand houses, churches and monuments built since the 16th century, Salvador makes up the greatest collection of Baroque architectural heritage in Latin America.  Depart from the Pier by coach travelling to the district of Boa Viagem. Stop at the Colina Sagrada (Sacred Hill), where you will visit the spectacular church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, protector of sailors. The facade of this church is partially covered with white Portuguese majolica. Continue on to the historical center in the High City passing by the Ladeira da Montanha and Castro Alves Square. Disembark from the bus at Municipal Square where at the Lacerda Elevator you’ll begin a walking tour of the Pelourinho district, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the largest complexes of colonial architecture in South America.  Your guided walk takes you through the narrow bustling streets lined with buildings in pastel shades of an age gone by. From Praça da Se you will join the Terreiro de Jesus where you’ll visit the Cathedral Basilica. The stunning interior includes a paneled ceiling of carved and gilded wood which gives the church a light, airy feel. Continue to the Church and Convent of São Francisco with its opulent interior features cedar woodcarvings, covered in gold leaf that took 28 years to be completed. Continue walking until Largo do Pelourinho and back to Praça Municipal to embark in the coach.
