At that time, the mountain was developed with exhibition halls and sports arenas and cultivated with parks and gardens. It is Barcelona's most important recreational area today. Admire the 1992 Olympic Stadium. At the summit of Montjuic Hill, pause at Mirador del Alcalde to photograph the panoramic vista of Barcelona and its surroundings.
Proceed along the famous Passeig de Gràcia Boulevard, home to the Gaudi architectural landmarks of Casa Milà, known as “La Pedrera” (The Quarry), and Casa Batlló while your guide provides commentary.
Continue via Diagonal Avenue to the upper Eixample area where the Sagrada Familia Cathedral is located. Having begun in 1882, construction continues today following the plans laid down by its designer. Learn about its features from your guide's descriptive narration as you observe the ongoing construction of this magnificent structure. See the nativity facade with its flamboyant spires, stained glass windows and sculpted figures from the exteriors of the church. Discover why La Sagrada Familia is an evolving architectural masterpiece.
Continue on to the picturesque Gothic Quarter and follow your guide on a brief walk to the 13th century cathedral, founded by Jaume II in 1298. Admire the exterior as your guide narrates. Proceed from the cathedral through the maze of cobbled streets. Experience the infinite varieties of history and art revealed as you turn every corner.
