Full Description:
This excursion will take you back in time to the Middle Ages when Viking kings ruled both land and sea. Stavanger and the surrounding areas hold many unique findings from the Viking era and earlier. On the way to Iron Age Farm, you’ll pass Hafrsfjord, where a sea battle took place and resulted in the unification of Norway, won by King Harald Fairhair. A monument of three swords symbolizes this historical happening.

You will visit the Ullandhaug Iron Age Farm, the ancient site where the Viking king, Harald Fairhair, defeated the last of the regional princes in 872, thus forming the Kingdom of Norway. The farm has three buildings that demonstrate the daily life of 1500 years ago. You’ll then proceed to the Ullandhaug viewpoint for a photo opportunity and a fantastic view over the district of Ryfylke and the city.

On your way back to Stavanger, you'll pass the former home of writer Alexander Kielland, Ledaal Manor, which is now used as the royal residence when royalties are visiting Stavanger. You’ll stop at the Stavanger Cathedral for a photo opportunity. The cathedral dates back to the 12th and 13th century and belongs to the few churches in Scandinavia that are still original in their design.

You’ll end your tour with a short walk through the narrow cobblestone streets of Old Stavanger and see the white wooden houses dating back to the 18th and 19th century.

Important Notes:
