Drive through the center of town to view the highlights as you head towards Evje—gateway to the Setesdal Valley. This area abounds in rare minerals, and the new Setesdal Mineral Park offers a unique collection of minerals and crystal. Copper and nickel has been extracted from the Flåt Mines since 1844, as well as mining of quartz, feldspar and rare minerals. The exhibition area comprises five halls inside the mountain with a total area of 1,000 square meters, containing fabulous minerals and crystals from all over the world. The inner caverns show off magnificent shapes and colors—any preconceived notions about stone will need to be reconsidered after this visit!
Kristiansand is an important center on the southern coast of Norway. Daily ferry departures to Denmark link the town to Europe - only 4 hours away. The town is around 350 years old - founded by King Christian IV in 1641. The center of the city is brimming with nice shops and restaurants - but also within walking distance, you will find nice beaches and recreation areas.
You will start your tour with a short drive through the center of the town showing the main sights. You will continue towards the Setesdal valley and Evje - also called the “gateway to the Setesdal Valley. The area bounds in rare minerals and several mineral collections are open to the public. The new Setesdalen Mineral Park is quite special with its unique collection of minerals and crystal.
The mineral park lies is a mining area rich in tradition, where copper and nickel ore has been extracted from the Flåt Mines since 1844. Mining of quartz, feldspat and rare minerals has also been carried out since the 1880’s and up to the present.

The collection houses a fabulous collection of minerals and crystals from all parts of the world. After having visited the mineral park you will continue your tour through farmland and past small villages, heading back to Kristiansand where you end the tour at the pier.
