The Blarney Castle which you visit today is the third to have been erected on the site and was built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland's greatest chieftains, Cormac MacCarthy. It has been attracting attention ever since. Millions of visitors have flocked to Blarney, making it a world landmark and one of Ireland's greatest treasures. That might have something to do with the Blarney Stone, the legendary Stone of Eloquence, found at the top of the Tower. Kiss it and you'll never again be lost for words. Everyone from Sir Walter Scott to a host of American presidents, world leaders, and international entertainers has been eager to take advantage.

A footpath leads you from the entrance gateway through a belt of trees and the accompanying stream forms the setting for a delightful stroll towards the towering castle keep. There you can start the climb up the steep, stone spiral staircase to the top where the world famous Blarney Stone is situated high up in the battlements of the castle. From there you can enjoy the spectacular views of the lush green Irish countryside, Blarney House and the village of Blarney.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 300 yards from the bus park in Blarney. Walking at the Blarney Castle is at the guest's discretion but a minimum of 0.35 mile is required over various surfaces and numerous steps.
