Enjoy the lovely scenery of typical Scottish glens, each with its own charm as the route continues to Loch Ness. The lake is famous for the Lock Ness monster affectionately known as Nessi. The lock is extremely beautiful, long and narrow with steep wooded banks and a depth of 900 feet in some parts. Travel through the village of Drumnadrochit and on to Urquhart Castle for a visit. Built as both a fortress and a residence, Urquhart provided the lord and those under his protection with a very secure defense. The castle figured prominently in Scotland's struggle for independence in the fourteenth century. The castle was last inhabited by government troops during the Jacobite troubles in the 1690's. Romantics say Nessi lives in a subterranean cave below the caste. The pathway from the bus park down to the lower level of the Castle is fairly steep in parts however, you can remain on the upper level and obtain good panoramic views of the castle.

Afterwards, travel alongside Loch Ness and into Inverness for a brief scenic tour. Leaving Inverness cross the modern and elegant Kessock Bridge that spans the Beuly Firth and links the Northern and Southern Highlands. Then cross the Black Isle with its gentle rolling sweep of green farmland before traveling alongside Cromarty Firth to Invergordon.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.25 mile over various surfaces, steep inclines with 15 - 35 steps. Comfortable, non-slip walking shoes are recommended. Time permitting, limited shopping is available at Urquhart Castle. The drive to/from Invergordon is approximately 1 hour each way, dependent upon traffic conditions.
