Overview: A walking tour that begins with a short drive around the township of Picton before proceeding to the Karaka Point Walking Track. As you proceed around the track, your guides will inform you of the local history, beginning with the early Maori up to the European settlement of the area. Visit the site of a formerly fortified village. Highlights: A walking tour around Karaka Point walking track, a chance to view first-hand remnants of early Maori. Notes: There is around 2 miles of walking on uneven terrain.

Full Description:
Commence with a short orientation drive around the quaint seaside town of Picton before taking a scenic drive to the Karaka Point Walking Track. 

The short track winds for about ¼ mile through picturesque bush abounding with native birds and with views of the impressive Queen Charlotte Sounds to your destination.  As you proceed around the track, your guides will inform you of the local history, beginning with the early Maori up to the European settlement of the area.  As you walk along the guides will point out some of the first-hand remnants of the early Maori inhabitants along trail as you reach the end of the peninsular, formerly a Maori fortified Pa. Whilst none of the buildings remain the food pits, middens and remains of the fortifications are clearly visible.  Your guide will relate the history of the original inhabitants before you return to your bus and then the ship. 

What to Bring:
•Your SeaPass card (provided onboard the ship) and photo identification
•Camera and cash for shopping
•Sun protection and sunglasses

What to Wear:
•Comfortable walking shoes

Notes:
•There is around 2 miles of walking on uneven terrain.
