Get behind the wheel of a Jeep Wrangler equipped for four fellow explorers and go off-roading on a 2.5-hour drive across Chichagof Island, as you glimpse native Alaska wildlife along the wilderness route. Sit in the driver’s seat of your exploration vehicle alongside a guide who will provide insightful commentary through a radio communication system about the island’s rich history, unique ecosystem and indigenous culture. Wind your way around old logging roads across the fifth largest island in the U.S., taking in the densely forested landscapes of Tongass National Forest and picturesque fjords along the coast. Chichagof Island is home to the highest population of brown bears per square mile of any place on earth, so keep your eyes peeled for the coastal brown bear. You also might get an up-close view of soaring bald eagles and the Sitka black tailed deer while on this scenic Jeep ride through pure, wild Alaska.
Highlights: • Back roads: It’s your turn to drive an off-roading Jeep Wrangler along old logging roads and past postcard-perfect Alaska scenery. • Chichagof Island: America’s fifth largest island is named after a Russian Arctic explorer and part of expansive Tongass National Forest. • Alaska wildlife: Bald eagles, Sitka black tailed deer and the world’s highest brown bear population can be found on the island.
