Depart the port and drive westwards to the Nanshan Buddhism and Cultural Centre, located some 45 minutes from Sanya. On your way, you will be able to admire the Hainan countryside with tropical fruit fields and local villagers working. As you approach Nanshan, you will also notice, along the road, groups of people selling incense sticks to Buddhist worshipers.
Nanshan, which translates into South Mountain, is a unique place blessed by an idyllic location and occupies an increasingly important place in Chinese folklore and culture. The 50 kms site faces the South China Sea and is backed by the graceful Nanshan Mountain. It offers a great display of Chinese and Buddhist culture and has attracted worldwide attention for its ecologically sound constructions and ecological awareness. It combines three theme parks into one: the Buddhism Culture Park, the Blessing and Longevity Park, and the Hainan Custom Culture Park.
During your time in Nanshan, you will have the chance to visit some of its most famous attractions, including the spectacular 108 meters high Guanyin Buddha statue (goddess of mercy) built on a platform standing tall in the majestic South China Sea. You will also visit the impressive Nanshan temples, including the largest built since 1949. Finally, you will get a chance to admire some impressive gardens and superb tropical sea views. Whether you are a Buddhist disciple, have interest in Chinese culture, or simply want to visit a spectacular site, you should not miss the chance to visit Nanshan.
Before returning to the ship, you will be driven to a Hainan local specialty shop where you will enjoy some free time shopping for the perfect souvenir.
