Joseph Falceto

Hotel Director

Joseph Falceto
Hotel Director Joseph Falceto may not be a mind reader, but he's made a terrific career out of uncannily anticipating the needs and desires of his guests. And there's no question in his mind that he's found his calling sailing with Royal Caribbean International.®
How did you become part of the Royal Caribbean family?
Royal Caribbean brought me to Miami and invited me to sail aboard Voyager of the Seas for a week. After that, there was no question that this is what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be.
Describe the responsibilities of your job
It's very simple - delivering Gold Anchor Service to each and every guest each and every day. That goes for everything from shore excursions to meals and beverages. I need to constantly stay ahead and anticipate the needs of our guests.
What are the challenges?
The biggest challenge is being prepared as we sail from, say, Europe to Galveston. As the mix of guests changes, so do the shore excursions, the entertainment and the activities.
How big is your team?
On Splendour of the Seas, it's made up of 620 people. Everything except the deck and engine work is under me.
So given that, how much sleep do you get?
Well, I start my day at 6:15 a.m. with a cup of coffee. Then it's off to meetings, answering phone calls, talking to the crew, and generally just catering to our guests throughout the day. Usually my day ends between 8:30 and 10:30 in the evening.
On a different note, what's your favorite port of call?
My favorite port of call is my hometown, Barcelona. But as for a destination, Alaska is number one. To me, going to Alaska and seeing the wilderness is just awesome. But the Panama Canal is high on my list, too. It was built 100 years ago and it's still working - that's mind-boggling.
