Ishigaki-jima Island is the main island in the Yae-yama archipelago, which is about 420 kilometers southwest of Naha on Okinawa Main Island. Ishigaki-jima Island is 90 kilometers around, and covered with mountains, including Mt. Omoto-dake, rising 526 meters above sea level, the highest in Okinawa. Ishigaki City, Japan's southernmost city is the Yaeyama's only urban center and is the site of the region's major airport and boat terminal. The island is noted for its emerald green water and white sandy beaches. Ishigaki-kima Island is also well known for its pineapples and black pearls which are unique to this island.
