Get a Taste of Local Flavor

Lifou's traditional staples are fish, coconut, banana, taro, sweet potato and yam; with the influence of France, excellent coffee has also become a regular part of Lifou cuisine. Make sure to try a dish with local favorites lobster, coconut crab and turtle. A good one to sample is bougna, a delicious combination of taro, yam, sweet potato, banana, and pieces of chicken, crab or lobster wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in a ground oven.

The local currency is the CFP Franc (French Pacific Franc). The exchange rate is determined in relation to the Euro. 1,000 FCFP = 8.38 euros. 1 euro = 119,25 FCFP. Changing euros into CFP Francs is free.
