• Visit Nauthólsvík, an environmentally friendly geothermal beach where you can soak in the sun and bathe in water as warm as the Mediterranean. Here the Atlantic Ocean is heated by a constant flow of warm water pumped into the sea, so contrary to what you might have thought, pack a bathing suit!
• Take your camera when you tour the Hallgrimskirkja church, an architectural marvel visible from any point in the city. Designed to resemble volcanic rock formations, its striking façade echoes the shape of its impressive steel organ pipes located at the entrance. Stay for a free organ concert and visit the bell tower for a breathtaking view of the city.
• Treat yourself to a trip to the Blue Lagoon, a luxurious spa that is one of Iceland's most popular destinations. With steamy, mineral-rich water harvested from beneath the earth, it's the perfect place to relieve stress and tension in an idyllic backdrop.
• See the whales! The waters surrounding Reykjavik are home to a number of marine mammals, including minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins and porpoises. Whale-watching season runs generally runs from April to October.

Local Currency

The Icelandic Krona (ISK) is the official currency of Iceland. Many stores and restaurants also accept major credit cards, which usually offer you a good exchange rate. When shopping, remember there is a value-added tax on most purchases.
