See one of twelve Japanese castles to have survived the hardships of the post feudal age. Kochi Castle was first build in the early 1600s and then reconstructed in 1748 after a fire. During the Edo Period it housed the Yamauchi lords who ruled the region and today its wooden walls house treasures and historical artifacts.

  • Take stroll along the halls and structures of the Chikurinji temple on Godaisan Mountain, with a beautiful five-storied pagoda and Buddhist statues and scrolls of importance.
  • Explore the Katsurahama beach and its surrounding attractions like, the Sakamoto Ryoma statue and Memorial Museum in honor of Kochi's favorite son, and instrumental architects.
  • Visit Kochi Downtown and walk over Harimayabashi Bridge, a small red bridge that is famous for its role in a Kochi forbidden love story.

Get a Taste of Local Flavors

No trip to Kochi is complete without trying their specialty dish, Katsuo no tataki. Katsuo stands for the type of tuna fish used and Tataki is the style in which it’s prepared. The fish is lightly broiled so that the inside remains raw, sliced and seasoned with soya sauce with vinegar and citrus, and served with sliced garlic and onions.
