See one of twelve Japanese castles to have survived the hardships of the post feudal age. Kochi Castle was first build in the early 1600s and then reconstructed in 1748 after a fire. During the Edo Period it housed the Yamauchi lords who ruled the region and today its wooden walls house treasures and historical artifacts.
No trip to Kochi is complete without trying their specialty dish, Katsuo no tataki. Katsuo stands for the type of tuna fish used and Tataki is the style in which it’s prepared. The fish is lightly broiled so that the inside remains raw, sliced and seasoned with soya sauce with vinegar and citrus, and served with sliced garlic and onions.
