There are more than 350 islands in Angra Bay, but the most popular by far has to be Ilha Grande (Big Island). Take time to explore the nature preserve there. You'll find dense tropical forests, native flora and fauna, and beautiful pristine beaches. It's a place where you can imagine what Brazil looked like when it was first inhabited. After your hike, head back to modern times at Vila do Abraćo, where you can get a cold drink at a beachfront bar.
For a little excitement in the sand, head to Anil Beach. Anil Beach takes beach culture to the extreme. There, along with the heliport and the Yacht Club, you'll find large areas for beach volleyball and soccer. Both are passionate favorites with locals, and you'll be sure to find people playing almost any time of day.
