Taiwan is highly diversified in terms of religious faith, with the practice of Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Mormonism, and others. Confucius was an important part of religious thinking in Taiwan. He was China's most famous and beloved teacher, advocating the practice of rituals and the worship of ancestors. Many temples were constructed as a mark of respect to the sage. The large and colorful Confucius Temple in Taichung, opens its main door, the Lingxing Door every year on September 28th to celebrate the birthday of Confucius.

• Satisfy your thirst for knowledge at the National Museum of Natural Science. The museum has four multi-media theaters for different subjects, including Space Theater, Birdview Theater, Three-dimensional Theater and Environment Theater.
• Brush up on your foundation of Chinese art. Visit the Taiwan Museum of Art and explore its 24 exhibition halls, featuring Western art, Chinese brush paintings, sculptures and a collection of valuable pieces of art.
• Located in the heart of Taichung, the Zhonghua Road Night Market has been attracting food lovers for more than 40 years. At the market, you'll find 300 to 400 vendors selling cheap, delicious food from the north to the south of Taiwan.
• In 1984, the Taichung City Council built the Folklore Park at Lushun Road to help the public reach a better understanding about the lifestyle of their ancestors. The park is truly an exceptional tribute of folk heritage that is worth a visit, especially on festivals and holidays when the park comes alive with Chinese acrobatic displays, dragon and lion dances and top-spinning.

Get a Taste of Local Flavor

The city is a melting pot of food from all over, offering the meat balls of Changhua, the rice cakes of Chiayi, the oyster omelet of Tainan, and even foreign cuisine. The city’s best-known snacks are concentrated in the Fengjia Night Market, where you can taste a wide variety of delicacies. There is an endless variety to choose from, the prices are cheap, and the portions are large. After sampling the night market goodies, you can move onto Jingming 1st Street and enjoy a leisurely cup or two of tea.

Shopping for Bargains

Jingming 1^st street is the official pedestrian-only street in Taichung. Along the street are boutique shops, coffee shops, restaurants and galleries. The Fengjia Night Market is one of Taichung's famous commercial business districts where you can find quality clothes at reasonable prices and the trendiest mobile phones at excellent bargain prices.

Local Currency

The Republic of China's unit of currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NT$). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at government-designated banks and hotels. Receipts are given when currency is exchanged, and must be presented in order to exchange unused NT dollars before departure. Major credit cards such as American Express, Master Card, Visa, and Diners Club are accepted and traveler's checks may be cashed at foreign-exchange banks, some tourist-oriented businesses, and (by room guests) most international tourist hotels.
