Explore the lush, tropical beauty of northern St. Lucia on this tour, which begins with a drive through the centre of Castries. You will see the vibrant and colourful local market and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with its magnificent architecture before proceeding to Morne Fortune known as the "Hill of Good Luck" which was one of the battle areas of the French and the British.  At Caribelle Batik located in an old Victorian mansion, you can observe skilled craftsmen creating beautiful, intricate batik designs. The unique fabrics are made into lovely and cool casual wear that you may want to purchase. Then travel through the scenic countryside and rural communities filled with charm and quaintness that is truly Caribbean to Pigeon Island which has a spicy history dating back to the 1500's. Two centuries later, British admiral George Rodney fortified Pigeon Island, using it to monitor the French fleet on Martinique. Rodney’s fleet set sail from Pigeon Island in 1782 for his most decisive military engagement, the Battle of the Saintes.During WWII the USA established a small signal station here. It’s a fun place to explore, with paths winding around the remains of Fort Rodney.
The grounds are well endowed with lofty trees, manicured lawns and fine coastal views. At the top of Fort Rodney Hill, you’ll find a small but well-preserved fortress, a few rusting cannons and a spectacular view. You can see south across Rodney Bay to the rolling hills dotting the coast, and north past Pointe du Cap to Martinique. For more views, continue north past the stone foundations of the ridge battery to the top of the 359ft Signal Peak, about a 20-minute walk. There are two small cozy sandy beaches where you can simply relax, soak up the sun or take a swim in the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea. Snacks and drinks are for purchase at the park restaurant "Jambe de Bois" named after the famous French pirate who used this site as a hideout in the 17th century. Beach chairs are for rental.
