Historic Halifax Walking Tour - HX05

Halifax has undergone many changes since it was founded in 1749 as a British military garrison, yet the city's core still retains the charming vestiges of our history and seaport culture. The best way to experience this beauty, history and architecture, is to explore it on foot with this relaxing walking tour. A double decker or motor coach takes you to your starting point of the Public Gardens, where you enjoy a guided walk with your kilted guide through the quaint streets of the city.

There is no way to get closer to the heart and soul of the exciting city of Halifax than to get out and explore Nova Scotia's capital on foot. Your kilted guide will encourage your questions and share with you many stories of Halifax's past and present.

A London style double decker bus or motor coach will transport you to the city's famed Public Gardens, which is where our tour begins. Since Victorian times, Haligonians have enjoyed this 17-acre paradise in the middle of the city and here your guide will walk you through the finest Victorian gardens in North America as you stroll the pathways past trees planted by visiting royalty.

Then saunter along to Citadel Hill where you can gaze over this modern port city. The tour then winds its way down the hill, past the 200-year old Town Clock, the Metro Centre, City Hall and to Grand Parade, historically a military parade square and now home to Halifax's oldest building, St. Paul's Anglican Church.

Your tour culminates as you reach Historic Properties, once a warehouse for one of the richest men in Canada! Today Historic Properties is home to boutiques, a waterside restaurant, pubs, and charming shops. If you choose, stay in town and relax on your own, or return back to your pier with your kilted guide.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1 1/2 miles over even surfaces, inclines, and pathways with 10 to 20 steps. This is all done at a leisurely pace. Sturdy, low-heeled walking shoes and bottled water are recommended. Tour not recommended for guests with limited mobility. Transportation is provided to the starting point of the walking tour. Guests may choose to stay at Historic Properties at the completion of the tour or return by foot to the pier with their guide.
