Saint John Historic Walking Tour - NB70
Tour Canada's first incorporated city on foot. You will walk through the historic "Uptown" Saint John. You will walk along streets that are steeped in history lined with buildings that are architectural treasures. You will learn about the Great Fire of 1877 that destroyed over 1600 buildings. You will visit the Saint John City Market and Barbour's General Store with time to browse and meet local artists and sample local produce. You will walk through King's Square and the Old Burial Ground and learn about the loyalists who founded the city in 1783.
Join your local guide for a walking excursion through Canada’s first incorporated city, Saint John. On this excursion you will explore historic streetscapes and the old business district downtown. Hear stories of the Great Fire of 1877 that destroyed over 1600 structures including churches, hotels, banks and schooners. Take time to browse the many merchants at the Saint John City Market, where you can find local crafts and collectibles, sample fresh seafood and farm products, in season, and meet with locals.
Visit the historic heart of Saint John, the Trinity Royal Preservation Area. Here you will see some of the oldest churches in town, and stunning architecture from the nineteenth century including ornate carvings, stained glass windows and charming gargoyles. You will walk through King's Square where you will see a two-storey bandstand and the Old Burial Ground where many of the Loyalists were buried.
You will see many pieces of local art scattered throughout the "Uptown " produced by world-class artists and sculptures.
