Caves & City Center - CU85
Visit two highlights of Curacao, the Hato Caves and the famous City Center, which is listed on the Unesco World Heritage list. The caves are home to beautiful limestone formations and the variety of stalagmites and stalactites. In the center you visit the floating market and view coloreful merchant houses, Fort Amsterdam and cross the famous floating bridge on your way back to the ship. Participants must be in good physical condition as there are 100 steps at Hato Caves.
Discover two highlights of Curacao, the Hato Caves and the famous City Center, which is listed on the Unesco World Heritage list.
After a short drive, you will arrive at the impressive Hato Caves. It is a home to beautiful limestone formations, the famous Madonna statue and a colony of seldom seen long nose fruit bats. The variety of stalagmites and stalactites are impressive. It is fun to join the guide in recognizing animals or figures in the various stone formations.
From here we drive back to the city where your walk through the city centre will start. First you will visit the Curacao marketplace. At this market the local people buy their food or ingredients for home cooking. After this typical local market, you will pass by the floating fruit & vegetable market. This typical market exists from Venezuelan schooners, where from the crew sells their products from their boats.
On the way to Fort Amsterdam, you will pass the beautifully colored merchant houses on the quay of the harbor entrance. There houses are perfect models for great Curacao vacation pictures. Fort Amsterdam is a nice place and home to the governor of the Netherlands Antilles.
The last part of this walk will be to cross the floating bridge that connects both sides of the city. If the bridge is open, due to ship traffic, we will make use of the ferries.
Your guide will escort you back to the ship, right through the Riffort with many shops and the new Renaissance hotel. Off course you could also stay behind in the centre and enjoy the various shops or restaurants a little longer.
