Full Description:
This excursion takes you to Valldemossa, one of the most beautiful yet typical villages on the island. The village is a short distance from Palma, nestled in a valley of the northern mountain range.
From the port, the coach will head to Valldemossa where you'll visit La Cartuja, an ancient monastery that was originally built as a royal hunting lodge and later inhabited by Carthusian monks. The monks were expelled in 1835, the venue was privatized and the cells became lodging for travelers. During the winter of 1838, the famous Polish composer Frederick Chopin and the French writer George Sand lived in this monastery. There is a collection of furniture, including a piano where Chopin composed some of his masterpieces. George Sand later wrote a book "A Winter in Majorca," which tells of time spent on the island. Other interesting sites in the monastery include a small chapel, a pharmacy dating to the Middle Ages and the monk's library. A local museum and some ornately furnished rooms originally called King Sancho's Palace are also open for visitors. Guests will also have the opportunity to listen to a 10-minute piano concert.
At the conclusion of the guided portion of the tour, guests will have time to shop and explore Valldemossa on their own.
