Sweeping from the White Cliffs of Dover to the pounding seas at Land's End, the south of England is an extraordinary place of legend and literature, castles and cathedrals. You'll start by traveling to the top of the white cliffs for a photo stop of Dover Castle. Leaving Dover, you will travel to medieval Canterbury. The city, a cradle of Christianity in Saxon England, stands on a site that had already been occupied for 350 years when the Romans arrived there in AD43. Canterbury has preserved some of its medieval character. Long stretches of the town walls survive, built in the 13th and 14th centuries on Roman foundations, and there are some lofty overhanging houses in the lanes leading to the great Christ Church Gate, the main entrance to the cathedral. During your tour of Canterbury, you'll see how the medieval atmosphere blends with the modern amenities. The long grey cathedral that dominates the city and skyline is the Mother Church of Anglicans throughout the world. It dates from Norman times, and for 350 years after the murder of Thomas Becket in the cathedral in 1170 it was the destination of countless pilgrims.

Continue with a panoramic drive through the countryside. Known as the Garden of England, the county of Kent is English countryside at its best. It is a landscape of wooded valleys, orchards and vineyards and it is there you will find the delightful village of Chilham. Your coach will park in the 15th century Village Square in the heart of the village. The square is considered by many to be one of the most perfectly preserved medieval settings in South-east England. Most of the buildings in the square and in the four streets leading into it date from the late 15th century and are black and white, half-timbered structures.
