Full Description:
Begin your half day journey as you depart from the ship on a guided ride along Valencia's Avenida del Puerto. Cross the river and continue on Gran Via and Calle Jativa for views of the bullring and Central Square Market. Upon arrival at the Central Market, follow your guide on a walking tour of the square. Admire the Gothic style buildings of the Silk Exchange, an exhibition pavilion with an impressive façade constructed on helicoidal columns. Rejoin your coach for a panoramic ride to the Carmen Quarter, Torre de Quart, Casa de Beneficencia, and the IVAM, a modern art museum.

Proceed directly ahead of the IVAM to the “Fallas Museum” for an inside view of the "pardoned figures" from the fire of the Fallas Festival. In 1934, the tradition of the "Ninot Indultat" (Pardoned Figure) was first established as a feature of the Fallas Festival. That particular year the pardoned figure of the Central Market Square falla, entitled "Grandmother and Granddaughter" a work of the artist Vicente Beneito, was taken in a humorous parade to the Palacio Municipal de la Exposición where it was placed. From that year forward, those "ninots" chosen as the best by popular vote each year escaped the ritual burning on the night of San Jose and were placed in the above-mentioned palace. It was then decided to exhibit one "ninot" from each falla prior to the "plantá" (the setting up of the statues in the streets) so that people could see them all together and take a vote to pardon one.

The basements of the central markets were chosen as the appropriate place to house this exhibition, beginning with the Exposición del Ninot. From 1942, it was held annually at the Lonja de la Seda. In the 1950s, an exhibition of "ninots indultats," then called Galeria del Ninot, was held at the old flower market, then located in the basement of the once-existing rotunda of the Town Hall Square. The fateful floods of 1957 destroyed some of the figures on exhibition there. The winner of that year was among those destroyed. The exhibition was then relocated to the Palacio de los Condes de Parcent and it was named Galeria Fallera.

At end of the 1960s, then Chairman of the Fallas Board, Mr. Marti Belda, purchased by public auction the old military prison located at Monteolivete after laborious negotiations. The museum was temporarily located there and was renamed Museo Fallero. Although the site was supposed to be temporary, it remains there to this day.

The current Fallas Museum houses mainly those figures which have been pardoned by popular vote and saved from fire throughout the years. There are also figures pardoned by some Falleras Mayores of Valencia and awarded the yearly Chairman's Prize, and the Raga Prize. The Fallas posters from each year and other items related to the Fallas Festival are also on exhibition. The installation of nearly all the pardoned figures enables the museum visitor to appreciate the evolution of the festival from figures whose hands and faces were made of wax while the rest of the body was dressed in clothing, to those entirely molded from cardboard, to the latest which are made of modern materials such as polyester.

At the conclusion of the museum visit, proceed to Torres de Serrano to view the Plaza de la Virgen and the exterior of the Cathedral.  Enjoy limited free time before resuming your panoramic tour of Valencia. Proceed past bridges and Calatrava’s City of Art & Sciences, before arriving at the port.
