This excursion visits the birthplace of modern Malta and allows you to shop for locally produced handicrafts. You'll pass through the island's scenic landscapes and Arabic architecture. You'll visit Mdina, Malta's "Silent City" and center of development, dating back almost 3,000 years. You'll walk the walled city, which affords excellent views from its ramparts, and visit the 9th-century Old Cathedral to view its collection of paintings and woodcarvings. Returning to your coach, you'll proceed to Ta' Qali Handicrafts Village where you'll make a brief stop at a glass blowing factory for a demonstration and some insight into this ancient art, as local artisans practice their craft. A complimentary soft beverage is offered while at the glass factory. You'll have approximately 45 minutes for shopping among the many ceramic, glass, and filigree jewelry shops. You can also watch the local artisans at work producing the typical Maltese wares that have made this region famous.

Continuing to Mosta, you will tour the well-preserved interior of the domed Church that is considered to be the third largest in Europe. Your guide will relay its history and tell you about the miracle that saved the structure from destruction during World War II.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1 mile over cobblestone streets through Mdina, with 5 - 10 steps. Walking at the Handicrafts Village is at your discretion over mostly even surfaces. Respectful attire that covers the shoulders and knees should be worn in the Church. Occasionally the Church and the Mosta Dome may be closed due to religious functions and are to be reconfirmed nearer the date.
