Full Description:
Begin your journey with a panoramic drive of the city of Cádiz while your guide provides commentary on the city's most celebrated landmarks and monuments. Discover the Constitution Monument and the beautiful cathedral in the city center from the comfort of your motor coach.

Following your tour of Cádiz, proceed on the old road to Jerez de La Frontera. Notice the dramatic change in landscape from the dry coastline to the fertile cultivated lands of Jerez. Only 50 kilometers from the sea and Cádiz, Jerez' ideal climate promotes cultivation of grapes capable of producing three different varieties of sherry. Jerez de la Frontera dates from Phoenician times, but first rose to prominence under the Moors, who called it Xerix or Sherrich ‘De la Frontera’. These names refer to Jerez’s position on the frontier of Moorish Spain, and the Alcazar (fortress) is a reminder of the town’s strategic importance. The real urban development of Jerez began in Moslem times, during the Almoravide and Almohade periods, when mosques and palaces were built and the town was extended dramatically.
In the 12th century, the Christians tried on several occasions to capture the city, but for a long period after these failed attempts, Jerez remained a Moorish border town. The eventual re-conquest under Alphonse X saw mosques converted to churches.

Proceed with your guide on a walking tour and witness the many reminders of Moorish Spain remaining in Jerez today. View the Alcázar, the 12th century Almohad fortress with the Capilla Santa María la Real, the Chapel of Santa María la Real, and the Baños Arabes, Arab baths. See the Archaelogical Museum containing a collection of 7th century BC Greek helmets found in the Río Guadalete. Pass the Plaza del Arenal, where one of Jerez´s loveliest churches stands. The 16th century Iglesia de San Miguel was built in Isabelline Gothic style and boasts some beautiful stained glass windows.

At the conclusion of the walking tour, reboard your coach bound for the cellars, or bodegas as they are called in Spain. Surprisingly, the sherry production houses are located in the center of the town of Jerez and are generally associated with an element of snobbery and aristocratic pride even to this day.  Tour the cellars and discover the process of creating original sherry wine from grape cultivation through the liquor's bottling. Participate in a sherry tasting. At the conclusion of your sherry tasting, the coach will be waiting to return you to Cádiz and to the ship.
