This three-in-one combination tour brings to life Alaska’s brilliant wildlife, heritage and indigenous culture with a trip to the Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka National Historical Park, and a traditional Tlingit Clan House. You’ll first engage in a bird-to-glove presentation and learn about the medical treatment, releasing practices and conservation efforts of bald eagles at the Alaska Raptor Center. Then it’s on to Sitka National Historical Park for an optional stroll along the quiet, wooded Totem Trail. Here you’ll explore Alaska’s fascinating mixture of Russian, Tlingit and American cultural heritage while viewing a collection of ornately carved totem poles. The path leads to the visitor’s center, which holds historical artifacts, photos and baskets woven by First Nations peoples. At the nearby Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi Tribal Community House, you’ll watch as Tlingit dancers festooned in full beaded regalia perform ancient songs around the smoke trails of burning cedar. You’ll be captivated by the story behind the largest hand-carved house screen “lovebirds”, and then will leave Sitka having truly experienced the ways of the Alaskans.

• Alaska Raptor Center: This non-profit outfit provides medical treatment to injured bald eagles before releasing them back in the wild.
• Sitka National Historic Park: Explore the country’s tumultuous history while viewing a collection of totem poles, photos and native artifacts.
• Naa Kahidi Tribal Community House: Experience authentic Tlingit traditions while watching cultural dancers perform ancient songs in ceremonial dress.
