Full Description:
Climb aboard the Yellow Tchou Tchou Train at the pier for a commentated tour of cosmopolitan Noumea, dubbed the Paris of the Pacific, and the surrounding area. The two-hour ride takes in the main highlights of New Caledonia’s capital city, built on a peninsula surrounded by azure-colored bays.

The train – in fact, a motorized trolley – travels past central Coconut Square up to the lookout point at the statue of Dame de Pacifique for panoramic views. You can take a refreshment break with a glass of cider and French pastries while overlooking the amazing blue lagoon.

On the descent back into the city, you’ll see military barracks erected more than 100 years ago. Faubourg Blanchot, one of Noumea’s oldest neighborhoods, charms with its enchanting colonial homes and colorful gardens.

The style of the south of France is evident along the Promenade Pierre Vernier, the grand boulevard lined with tall palm trees that hugs the waterfront and is popular for walking, jogging and biking.

The train again ascends, this time to the Ouen Toro lookout for stunning panoramic view of the beaches below and out to the reefs that surround the island.

Next you’ll see the beaches of Anse Vata, a paradise for water sports enthusiasts, and Lemon Bay (La Baie des Citrons), whose sheltered waters are favorite destinations for visitors and locals alike. Other sights include the yacht club, Orphelinat Bay and the Southern Province Government House.

The tour takes you through the Place des Cocotiers, in the city’s historic center. Guests may disembark here and explore this town square and surrounding area at their leisure and walk back to the ship (about 10 minutes). Or guests can return directly to the ship.
