Full Description:
Surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest, the picturesque mountain retreat of Kuranda Village began its modern era in the 1960s, attracting people seeking an alternative lifestyle. The village is still laid back and relaxed but today boasts a style and sophistication that set it apart from other towns in the Cairns Highlands.

Fig trees line the main street of the villages, whose shops, boutiques and covered markets selling exotic handicrafts, original clothing and accessories, jewellery, souvenirs, leather goods, Aboriginal artefacts, art works and more. Restaurants and cafes and market stalls serve a variety of delicious food and snacks, including tropical fruit juices and ice creams – and be sure to try to some fresh Queensland macadamia nuts.

The village also has many nature-based attractions, such as Bird World, the Butterfly Sanctuary and Koala Gardens. On your own, you can follow easy trails for a gentle walk to the river, seeing flora and fauna along the way. For those seeking a more strenuous bushwalk, head for the Barron Falls, for incredible views worth the exertion.
Or opt for a 45-minute cruise on a riverboat to see freshwater crocodiles, tropical fish, turtles and a large variety of birds. See both the rainforest and river with an Amphibious Army Duck, whose tours include the Tropical Fruit Orchard.
