Tallinn - City of Contrasts - TL14

This tour reveals the many contrasting faces of Tallinn, its differing nature and styles of life. You will drive to Lower Old Town and visit Town Hall Square. After rejoining your coach you will drive to and visit Song Festival Ground which gradually changes into an area of neat and lovely private houses from the 50's in the Kose-Pirita district. To have a more realistic understanding of Estonian peasant life in the 19th-20th centuries you will visit Viimsi Open Air Museum, which displays buildings from a former fish farm. Before returning you will have a coffee break in a boat-shaped restaurant on the beautiful Estonian seaside.

This tour reveals the many contrasting faces of Tallinn, its differing nature and styles of life.

First drive to Lower Old Town and walk to Town Hall Square with its majestic Town Hall from the 15th century. Here you will have some time for shopping. After rejoining your coach at Mere Boulevard drive to Song Festival Ground where important Estonian Song Festivals are held every five years.

Driving from Song Festival Ground to Kose-Pirita district you will witness a very different type of architecture - private houses from 1950-60's, all in their neat gardens. In Pirita you will drive past the ruins of the oldest Convent in Old Livonia- St.Bridget`s Convent (coach traveling by)-and the beautiful sailing harbor (coach traveling by) where the Sailing Regatta of Moscow Olympic Games were held in 1980.

The coast of the nearby Viimsi peninsula saw the arrival of its first inhabitants over two centuries, 1271-1471. Gradually mixed settlements appeared, where side-by-side with the Swedes lived Estonians and Finns. Even today you can see the old farm buildings alongside new houses which are building up rapidly. The Open Air Museum (inside visit included) displays Estonian peasant architecture from the 19th -20th centuries. Here you will also enjoy refreshments in a restaurant overlooking the picturesque seashore.

Note: Guest must be able to walk approximately 2 miles over even and grassy surfaces, inclines and 5 to 15 steps. Comfortable non-slip shoes are recommended. Guests may stay in town at the end of the tour or make their own way back to the ship (but they would need to inform the tour guide about staying in town and for taking the shuttle bus back to the port they need to buy a one-way ticket). Tour order may vary but all mentioned sites will be covered.
